  • Posted

Andrew Allen, Partner at leading Chartered Accountants PKF Francis Clark, has been appointed chair of the ICAEW’s Solicitors Special Interest Group (SSIG).

The Group, established in 1999, considers issues affecting the legal sector and provides support to accountants who work both within and for the legal profession. The group actively participates in issues affecting the legal sector at a national level including regulatory matters. The most recent example of this being the evolution of the regulation of client money in 2015 and during 2016 the group is set to become closely involved in proposed developments to the SRA Accounts Rules affecting law firms.

Andrew has specialised in advising law firms for over 20 years and today regularly works with around 100 law firms across the UK ranging from top 100 law firms to sole practitioners. He has been instrumental in setting up PKF Francis Clark’s specialist legal sector team and is a well- known personality and advisor in the legal sector on a national basis.

To date, Andrew’s work has primarily involved a mix of strategic, taxation and compliance services for law firms. Areas such as practice development, mergers, group structuring, valuation and profit improvement are common topics which Andrew frequently considers with his clients.

Already a long standing member of the ICAEW SSIG committee since 2001, Andrew has previously been an editor of the section’s newsletter, organised the annual conferences and roadshows and has been actively involved in work with national regulators and legal support organisations on the groups’ behalf.

Commenting on his new role, Andrew said: “I am honoured to assume chairmanship of the SSIG and look forward to working with both our members and representatives in the legal sector over the next few years. It is an exciting time for the legal sector with many opportunities along with the challenges that are frequently highlighted. My role is to ensure the SSIG are contributing positively to the legal sector during this period. The SSIG is continuously looking to drive up standards of services that accountants provide law firms and to ensure our members receive all the support they need, whether they are advising law firms or working within them.”
