Richard has over 20 years’ experience working in practice and business management. Richard Hill is Chief Executive and compliance officer for SME specialist property law firm Stepien Lake, based in London's West End. Richard is responsible for finance, compliance, IT and strategy whilst also dealing with the overall management of the firm. He is also heavily involved in clients’ businesses and takes a keen interest in property issues to assist with the firm’s service delivery to its clients. 

Richard is a Chartered Management Accountant (CIMA) and also an Associate member of the Institute having gained ILFM qualifications in legal finance, management and procedure. He received the Wilfred Owen Award in 2007 for the highest full Associate mark.

Richard has been a member of the ILFM since 2005 and has sat on the ILFM Executive Council since 2007 becoming Chair in 2012. Richard is also the author and tutor of the ILFM’s COFA training workshop which offers guidance and practical coaching on the impact of this compliance role on both the firms and the individuals taking on the role. Richard is also a trainer for ILFM Cybercrime training and has recently co-written “The Route to Client Money”, a publication about Cyber Security for law firms.  Richard also co-wrote a training course and program for a major UK bank and their relationship managers.

Richard is a regular commentator on legal finance, business and practice management topics. He writes regularly for the Institute’s magazine Legal Abacus and is a columnist for the Legal Practice Management (LPM) magazine produced by the Legal Support Network (LSN). He has also recently written for Modern Law Magazine, the ICAEW, Legal Voice, Lexinexis and the CILEX Journal.

Richard is married with two daughters who spend all his money on shopping and boy band concerts! To relax, Richard enjoys playing golf (badly) but enjoys all sports. His real passion is football and he supports Chelsea FC. He also has an interest in economics, news and films.
