ILFM Director of Education & Development & Chair

I am delighted to announce that Darren Whelan has accepted an offer to join the ILFM Team as a full time employee from 1st October, he will start in a new role as Director of Education & Development.

Over the last 9 years on the Executive Council,  Darren has shown his huge commitment to the ILFM and its members and has worked tirelessly in that voluntary role to further the aims and objectives of the Institute.   He has a very wide and in-depth knowledge of the areas the ILFM covers and is an accomplished trainer, consistently receiving outstanding feedback.

Darren has a passion for education and training, so we are very pleased we will help him to have the chance to exercise his ambitions in this area. Darren is looking forward to being able to give much more support to our wonderful team of tutors and trainers, who all continue to play a vital role for our students and members.

Darren has now stepped down as ILFM Chair and joins me full time from 1st October as part of the senior executive team.

I am also delighted that Ian Johnson has taken the ILFM Chair role so there will be great continuity at Board level.  Ian is a director in the Business Advisory Group of Saffery Champness Chartered Accountants and works closely with professional practices, especially law firms.
He has considerable experience in advising a diverse pool of law firms on all aspects of financial reporting and accounting matters, including statutory accounts and audit issues. He regularly advises law firms on the SRA Accounts Rules, financial and regulatory compliance, restructuring, internal management reporting, financial forecasting and tax compliance.

Ian lectures nationally on matters of financial management and compliance, and speaks at training courses and seminars for various organisations, including Central Law Training, MBL and regional Law Societies. He is also a part of the ICAEW Solicitors’ Community Committee.

Watch out for the next edition of  Legal Abacus where we will publish more detailed profiles.

I, as Chief Executive, will still be fully engaged in all the areas as I am now, but with the added bonus of more resource, help and knowledge to enable us all as a team to move things forward for you and to further increase membership value.

I am very much looking forward to Darren joining the team and indeed working with Ian as Chair, I am very excited about what we can achieve over the next months and years.

Kindest regards

Tim
