- Robert Banner
- ILFM Council
Until his recent retirement Robert had been involved in the Management of BannerJones Solicitors Ltd for over 35 years. During that time the company grew from having 1 office and 6 staff to 6 offices throughout Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and South Yorkshire and around 135 staff.
With regard to law Robert practised mainly in the areas of Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence and was recognised for several years in the Legal 500 for his expertise in those areas.
His main passion though is Law Firm management. In addition to being heavily involved with the management of his own firm he was elected to the committee of the Law Management Section of the Law Society in 2012 on which he sat for 11 years. During that time, he was Chair for 4 years becoming the committee's longest serving chair. He was also a member of the steering committee which led to the formation of the Small Firms Division of the Law Society whose committee he sat on for 10 years from 2013. Since 2014 he also contributed to the Law Society's Financial Benchmarking Survey for 10 years. He was extremely grateful to have been awarded a lifetime achievement award by his local business community in 2019.
Robert felt very privileged to be appointed as a Trustee of The Solicitors Charity in 2022 and equally privileged when he was appointed as a council member of the ILFM in June 2024.
In his spare time, such as it has been, Robert in his earlier life was a county tennis player and enjoyed playing football and cricket. He now spends much time with his wife, four children and one grandchild but much more time in his garden to such an extent that his wife has threatened to come back as a garden in her next life. He enjoys wining and dining, the theatre, art and travel. He is lucky in that he rarely suffers from stress, but when he does his way of relaxing is to play heavy rock music at the highest volume possible. He does admit that the predominant reason for suffering stress is caused by supporting his beloved Sheffield United.
