Where legal finance careers actually begin

  • Posted

It's always a good dinner party conversation starter: how did you end up doing the job you do? It's probably fair to say that few of us grew up knowing that legal finance was even a career option. Yet as we all know, it's a varied, interesting and rewarding profession that offers opportunities to make a real impact within the legal sector.

In the latest edition of Legal Abacus, Senior Recruitment Consultant at Balance Recruitment Becky Bradley asks recruiters, hiring manager and finance leaders how they started their journey into legal finance and what has kept them there – and the answers might surprise you…

While some always had a career in law or accounting in mind, others have “fallen into” the profession, perhaps starting as a trainee legal cashier after A Levels and working their way through ILFM qualifications to take on senior finance roles at a range of law firms.

Becky also collates advice from recruitment consultants and HR directors about what those starting out in their career journeys can do to stand out from a crowd of applicants, and what they wished someone had told them in their first year of working at a law firm. Plus ILFM members and students share their top tips and words of advice.

Our special edition of Legal Abacus out now is accessible to everyone – not just members – so you can read the full edition for free here – and if you liked this edition sign up to become a member and receive an issue every two months! Find out more about ILFM membership here
